1Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Depler LLC ("depler," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the depler app and related services. By using depler, you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.
2Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address, and optionally your phone number (which lets friends find you).
- Profile: a profile photo or avatar, if you add one.
- Group & split activity: the groups you create or join, receipts you add, items you claim, amounts, and payment status.
- Receipt images & text: photos of receipts you scan and the line items read from them.
- Support messages: anything you send us at support@depler.app.
Information collected automatically
- Device & usage data: device type, operating system, app version, and basic usage events needed to operate and improve the app.
- Push token: a notification identifier, if you enable push notifications.
3Bank & payment data
To move money between users, depler connects to your bank account through Stripe and Stripe Financial Connections. When you link an account:
- You enter your bank credentials directly with Stripe or your bank — depler never sees or stores your online banking username or password.
- Stripe returns a secure token and limited account details (such as the bank name and the last few digits of the account number) that depler uses to initiate transfers.
- Stripe processes the actual transfers. Stripe's handling of your data is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.
depler is not a bank and does not hold your funds. We store only the tokens and limited identifiers needed to run your splits.
4How we use information
- To create and manage your account.
- To run bill splits — reading receipts, calculating each person's share, and initiating bank transfers.
- To show you balances, activity, and history.
- To send notifications about splits, payments, and group activity.
- To provide support and respond to your requests.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
- To improve and develop features.
5How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:
- With other users in your group: when you join a split, members can see your name, profile photo, the items you claim, and your payment status — this is how splitting works.
- With service providers who run the app on our behalf (see below), under contracts that limit their use of your data.
- For legal reasons: if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of depler or others.
- In a business transfer: if depler is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
6Service providers

These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the Service. Each has its own privacy practices for the data it handles.
7Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, and comply with legal and financial-record obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information, except where we must retain certain records (for example, transaction records) for a limited period required by law.
8Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and database row-level security. Bank connections are tokenized through Stripe so that sensitive credentials never reach our servers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
- Update your profile details in the app.
- Disconnect a linked bank account in the app at any time.
- Request account deletion or a copy of your data by emailing support@depler.app.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
10Push & communications
If you enable push notifications, we use your push token to send updates about your splits and groups. You can turn these off in your device settings. We may also send important account or transaction emails that are necessary to operate the Service.
11Children
depler is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email and update the "Last updated" date above.
